Antalya Weather: When to Visit the Pearl of the Mediterranean

Antalya enjoys a Mediterranean climate with over 300 days of sunshine a year. Whether you're looking for a summer beach holiday or a mild winter escape, here is what to expect.

Antalya's climate is shaped by two simple facts: the Mediterranean stays warm year-round, and the Taurus Mountains immediately behind the city block most of Anatolia's continental weather. The result is hot, almost rain-free summers, surprisingly mild winters where the sea still hits 16–18 °C in January, and shoulder seasons that locals often consider the city's best months. This guide walks through every month with average temperatures, sea conditions, daylight hours, what to pack and what festivals are worth planning around.

1. Summer (June – August)

Summer is hot and dry, with temperatures often exceeding 35°C (95°F). The sea water is warm, making it the perfect time for swimming and water sports.

June starts with daytime highs of 30–32 °C, climbing to 35–40 °C in July and August. Nighttime lows stay around 25 °C in August — air conditioning is essential, not optional. The sea temperature climbs from 22 °C in early June to 28 °C in August, the warmest of the year. Daylight runs from 05:30 to 20:30 in late June. Rain is effectively zero in July and August. The UV index frequently exceeds 11 (extreme) at midday — schedule sightseeing for early morning or late afternoon and avoid the beach between 11:00 and 16:00.

  • Best For: Beach lovers and sun seekers.
  • Tip: Stay hydrated and enjoy the cool sea breeze in the evenings.
  • Pack: SPF 50 sunscreen, wide-brim hat, water shoes, light cotton/linen clothing, electrolyte tablets for active days.
  • Festivals: Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival (June–July); International Film Festival in October but rehearsals start now.

2. Autumn (September – November)

Many locals believe this is the best time to visit. The air temperature drops to a comfortable 25-28°C, but the sea remains warm enough for swimming until late November.

September is genuinely Antalya's best month: hot but not punishing (28–32 °C), sea at 27 °C, the European school crowd already gone, hotel and restaurant prices easing 15–20%. October cools to 23–26 °C with occasional first rains of the season; the sea drops to 24 °C but is still very swimmable. November averages 19–22 °C with the first short-sleeve-and-light-jacket weather — and the city's parks and orange groves come back to life after the dry summer. Daylight shortens from 12 hours in late September to 9 hours by end of November.

  • Best For: Sightseeing, hiking, and exploring ancient ruins without the summer heat.
  • Pack: light jacket for evenings (October onwards), swimwear, comfortable walking shoes, light rain shell after mid-October.
  • Events: Antalya International Film Festival (Golden Orange) in early October; harvest of the famous Antalya orange and pomegranate in late October.

3. Winter (December – February)

Antalya winters are mild and occasionally rainy. While it's too cold for swimming, it's a great time for "two-season" holidays—you can go skiing at Saklıkent Resort in the morning and enjoy a coffee by the sea in the afternoon.

Winter highs hover around 14–18 °C with overnight lows around 6–10 °C. Sunshine continues for most days — December still records over 6 hours of clear sky per day — but rain is more frequent (an average of 12 rainy days in January). The sea temperature drops to 16–18 °C, too cold for most swimmers, but the city retains a Mediterranean rather than continental feel. The Saklıkent ski resort, 45 km north of Antalya at 2,250 m altitude, is open December to March; runs are short but the novelty of breakfast on the beach and skiing by lunch is real. Antalya in winter is also the city's cheapest season — hotel rates drop 40–50% from summer peaks.

  • Pack: warm jumper, light waterproof jacket, closed-toe shoes; swimwear and shorts for sunny days; gloves and beanie only if you plan to ski.
  • Events: Antalya Marathon (early March), New Year fireworks over the Old Harbour, Saklıkent ski season opens in mid-December.

4. Spring (March – May)

Nature comes alive in spring. The city is covered in orange blossoms and wildflowers. It's an ideal time for photography and long walks along the coastline.

March is the transition month — daytime highs climb from 16 °C at the start to 20 °C by month-end. April is when the city blooms: orange blossom scents the entire western Antalya neighbourhood, the surrounding hills are covered in red anemones, and ancient sites like Aspendos and Termessos are at their most beautiful. May feels like proper summer: 25–28 °C, sea at 21 °C (still a little cool for most, but heating fast), and the first beach-club tables open at Konyaaltı. Spring is the second-best photography window after September.

  • Pack: layered clothing for cool mornings and warm afternoons, light rain jacket in March, swimwear from late April.
  • Events: Antalya Jazz Festival (May); citrus harvest in early April; archaeological sites reopen their extended summer hours from mid-April.

  • Budget travel: November to early March — hotels and tours up to 50% cheaper.
  • Snow & ski: mid-January to mid-March at Saklıkent.
  • Families with young children: late May or mid-September (warm sea, milder UV).

Weather-Smart Travel Tips

Antalya summer evenings are dramatically cooler than middays — pack a thin layer even in July. Storms in winter are short but intense; carry a compact umbrella between November and February. Sandstorms from North Africa (locally called Sahara dust) occasionally turn the sky orange for a day or two between March and May — harmless but worth knowing. The most reliable local forecasts come from the AccuWeather app or the Turkish MGM (Meteoroloji Genel Müdürlüğü) website; both are linked in the sidebar of our main Antalya guide. Sea conditions vary little day to day, so plan beach days at least 48 hours ahead with confidence.
